On Wednesday 14 November, at short notice over 2,000 people gathered at the Dáil to mourn and protest the death of Savita Halappanavar. With calls of Never Again people demanded changes to Ireland's backward abortion laws. At this protest Socialist Party Cllr. Ruth Coppinger announced Paul Murphy MEP's call for an International day of Action for Legal Abortion in Ireland on Wednesday 21 November.

During the evening of Thursday 16 May, the opposition youth movement that is developing in Spain brought out 150,000 protesters to occupy squares in 57 towns and cities.

The youth movement - ‘Real Democracy Now’ - is continuing and spreading. Despite the attempts of the PSOE government to ban the protests, this coming weekend is expected to see a further growth of this youth rebellion.

In an obituary of George Best, comrade Peter Hadden wrote “George Best composed poetry with his feet”. What a wonderful complement to a football genius from the working class streets of Belfast. And now Marie Jones and Martin Lynch have gone one further. They have “Besty” using those poetic feet dancing. And that soft Northern Irish accent singing in their unforgettable play “Dancing Shoes - The George Best Story”.

Cork Socialist Party & Socialist Youth help to organise protest against Youth Defence
