Socialist Party candidate for the North East ward Dave Keating this morning slammed HSE boss Brendan Drumm’s €500,000+ wage cheque and said that it was an insult in the week that tens of thousands of rent allowance recipients received correspondence from the HSE outlining cuts in their allowance.
Dave Keating said: “I am receiving daily phone calls now from tenants who are worried and distraught about the rent allowance cutbacks. People who are on the poverty line are being pushed down below it. And now we learn that the man who heads up the organisation that is implementing the cuts is pocketing more than half a million a year. It is a total disgrace.”
Dave Keating said that the tables should be turned and that rent allowance rates should be protected and Professor Drumm’s salary sharply cut.
